Andrew Jackson Bryant was born on October 30, 1823 in Ettingham, New Hampshire. He was then elected mayor in 1875 to replace James Otis. Just two and a half years later on May 11, 1882, Bryant was crossing the San Francisco Bay on a ferry probably going to either San Francisco or Oakland, while they were crossing Bryant fell off the ferry and into the bay, drowned and died.
