Technology

Occasional: this card was the breakthrough of the system by being the first widely used smart-card for occasional riders. It uses a small memory card (<1Kb) and a paper based support. The card can be recharged with more trips and has a life-time of about one year.
Season: similar in size to the occasional ticket, it has more memory on-chip, a contact interface and is made of PVC. It has a life-time of several years.
Use
It started operation in November 2002 at Metro do Porto stations and is now an intermodal ticket used in buses, light-rail and train. Machines in stations issue and can recharge blue "Occasional" tickets, while the credit-card style "Gold" tickets can be purchased in Loja Andantes (Andante Shops).
