Formerly, much of American Public Media's programming content was distributed by Public Radio International, which itself was formerly named American Public Radio (Network) until 01 July 1994. The former name of PRI (American Public Radio) and the current branding of APM (American Public Media) are apparently unrelated, despite their similarity. However, APR was formed by Bill Kling to distribute A Prairie Home Companion, but it was designed as a consortium of multiple public radio stations. Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) is a regional public radio network based in the U.S. state of Minnesota that has been broadcasting since 1967.
Minnesota Public Radio first began operating the station KSJR 90.1 FM in January 1967 after being spun off from Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota.
As a public radio network, MPR obtains much of the money it needs to operate by asking for donations from the listening public.
