"Alternatives To Marriage Project" (AtMP) is an American non-profit organization. It was founded in April 1998 by Dorian Solot and Marshall Miller, an unmarried couple in Boston, Massachusetts.


The mission of this advocacy organization is to support and defend the legal and civil rights of unmarried persons and their significant others, and to work for equality and fairness for domestic partners. AtMP provides information, resources and support for unmarried couples, those couples who cannot legally marry (such as gays or lesbians) or those couples who have no wish to marry. The organization also works to fight discrimination against unmarried persons and those who are living together or in an intimate relationship outside of marriage. Civil rights or positive rights are those legal rights retained by citizens and protected by the government. ... This article is about the social term for an intimate relationship. ... Domestic partner or domestic partnership identifies the personal relationship between individuals who are living together and sharing a common domestic life together but are not joined in any type of legal partnership, marriage or civil union. ... Homosexuality is a sexual orientation characterized by esthetic attraction, romantic love, or sexual desire exclusively for another of the same sex. ... This article is about homosexual women, not inhabitants of the Greek island of Lesbos A lesbian (lowercase L) is a homosexual woman. ... Concubinage is either the state of a couple living together as lovers with no obligation created by vows, legal marriage, or religious ceremony, or the state of a woman supported by a male lover who is married to, and usually living with, someone else. ... An intimate relationship is an interpersonal relationship with a great deal of physical and/or emotional intimacy. ... A marriage is a committed relationship between or among individuals, recognized by civil authority and/or bound by the religious beliefs of the participants. ...


Membership is open to all persons regardless of marital status.
