In 2004, she more than doubled the NDP vote in the riding to slightly more than 10,000, finishing a strong second to Peter MacKay. In 2006, she again increased the NDP vote in the riding, coming within 8% of Conservative incumbent Peter MacKay and receiving 33% of the popular vote (one of the highest levels of NDP support in the country).
