Rafael Alberto Reyes (born April 10, 1970), better known as Al Reyes, is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In 2006 he played with the Durham Bulls in the minor leagues. A right handed pitcher and career reliever, he has played for seven teams; debuting on April 27, 1995 with the Milwaukee Brewers and playing for the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, and St. Louis Cardinals over the years. On December 22, 2006 he signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, where he has become their closer. Reyes finished the year with 26 saves in 30 chances. Notably, his only blown saves came against the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Boston Rex Sox. With the very, very unfortunate news that Al Reyes is done not only for the playoffs, but for most of next year, I thought we'd better take a look at the bullpen for October.
Al Reyes was a shoe-in for the roster, of course, considering that he was either the best or 2nd best reliever the team had this year, depending on where you ranked Isringhausen.
People are already saying that Al Reyes will be missed due to his ability to retire both right handed and left handed batters.
