After Burner 2 has a fancier intro (featuring a series of rotating spheres), some new enemies (like the bombers) and a few extra levels, increasing the total from 18 to 21.
After Burner was also ported to the Gameboy Advance as part of the Sega Arcade Gallery pack, but it's easily the worst in the bunch.
After Burner 2 was also ported to the Playstation 2 as part of the Sega Ages 2500 series, which replaced the sprites based graphics with polygonal models.
