Archuleta attended Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona and was a letterman in football. In football, he was a two-time first team All-Central Region honoree and a two-time All-State Honorable Mention honoree. He was a linebacker at Arizona State University. The St. Louis Rams drafted Archuleta as the 20th overall selection in the 2001 NFL Draft. He spent his first five years in St. Louis, where he excelled in Lovie Smith's Cover 2 base defense. After the 2005 season ended, he was one of the most sought after free agent safeties.
