The Accademia del Cimento (Academy of Experiment), a early scientific society, was founded in Florence 1657 by students of Galileo, Evangelista Torricelli and Vincenzo Viviani. The academy was funded by the Medici. Giovanni Borelli and Nicolaus Steno were also members.
