End of Iowa 921 (349 words)
Highway 921 is the secret number for the last part of old US 218 in Iowa City after the final part of the western bypass opened in 1985.
The last portion of 921 is not part of original 218, but a connecting road between the 218 freeway and the old two-lane which continued going south.
The only marked existence of 921 is not on any signs on 218 or 6, but on two Iowa City street signs.
WP 921 (387 words)
Originally painted in orange and silver, 921 was one of the last 2 WP locomotives to retain this paint sceme (along with 918) until 1978 when she was repainted to "Perlman" green.
In 1977, 921 was involved in a fatal wreck (to the truck driver that ran into her) that tore up several of her left side panels.
921 had a reputation for overheating after her return from Idaho and it was predicted that she would be the first of the four to be sidelined, permanently.
