Formation

The regiment was formed in 1758 from the 2nd Battalion, 31st Regiment of Foot as the 70th (Glasgow Lowland) Regiment of Foot. In 1825 it bacame the 70th (The Surrey) Regiment. The 31st (Huntingdonshire) Regiment of Foot was a Line Regiment of the British Army first formed in 1694. ...


The regiment was at Guadeloupe in 1810, fought during the Maori War in New Zealand, amongst other things building a fort at Miranda, New Zealand, and served on the North West Frontier.
