WSDOT - Project - State Route 542 - Nooksack River Improvements (576 words)
SR 542 is 57 miles long and runs from I-5 in Bellingham to the top of Mount Baker.
Flooding on the Nooksack River has caused repetitive bank and roadway damage to SR 542 (Mount Baker Highway), which is east of Bellingham, and the main route to Mount Baker and surrounding communities.
For years the Nooksack River has overflowed the banks along SR 542, forcing closure of the highway and the need for emergency repairs.
