Encyclopedia > 1970 NBA Draft

The 1970 NBA Draft is known for having one of the most talented pools in draft history. Five players were inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame (Pete Maravich, Dave Cowens, Calvin Murphy, Bob Lanier, and Nate Archibald). A sixth future Hall of Famer, Dan Issel, would have been drafted except he had already signed with the ABA. Three members of the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team were drafted that year: Maravich, Cowens, and Archibald. Other notables that were drafted in 1970 went on to a successful coaching career (Rudy Tomjanovich, Jim McMillian and Cowens). NBA Draft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (905 words)
The NBA Draft is an annual U.S. event in which the National Basketball Association's (NBA) thirty teams can select young players who wish to join the league.
As of the 2006 NBA Draft, however, high school players must wait a year after their graduation class has finished high school before being eligible for selection.
The NBA considers all players from outside the 50 United States and the District of Columbia to be "international," even if they come from political entities that share a common citizenship with the U.S., such as Duncan's original home of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
