I live in Western Australia also. I was fined $500 and 4 demerit points for not putting on my seatbelt. I was 100 meters from my home on my way to pick up my daughters dog after a storm we had, who lives another 100 meters away. VERY EXCESSIVE!

I agree with Carigis, NM is not $25.00, with their fees and surcharges it is 86.00. (May 2012)

seems to me they say NM is 25.00, but with the additonal fees tacked on it's actually 86.00 (May, 2012)

NJ is over $60 with a mandatory court appearance to boot. Make no mistake about it, it's about the money first & foremost.

This is totally innaccurate. texas is a $200 fine.. california is like 89 for first offense and 189 for second. If you do not include the surcharges every state charges you may as well just list them all as 1.00 because they are in no way accurate anyway. listing them without the mandatory surcharges is useless..

Personal safety is a personal choice and government should not be involved at all.

In Western Australia where I Live the fine is $500 if the driver is not wearing a seatbelt - plus 4 demerit points (12 and you're off the road).

I think this is extremely excessive - does anyone have any comments?

Thanks

does getting pulled over for not having your seat belt go against your driving record?
