Despite government attempts to curb the population growth, China has been experiencing a slight growth in the 15-64 age group. Between 2003 and 2008, the number of females from 15 years to 64 increased from 433 million to 465 million, while the number of males aged 15-64 grew in the same period from 461 million to 491 million. However, the population under 15 years old is falling, with girls aged 14 years and under dropping from 141 million to 125 million, and boys 14 and under from 155 million to 142 million.
